The ESLAND 2023 Award for best esports player of the year has gone to Mexican Jesús ‘Jelty’ EspinozaFortnite player for G2 Esports and one of the most recognized players in the country where ESLAND has been held.
To top it off, they’ve brought on stage three well-known casters who have represented three of the four games in which the nominees compete.. Is about SuyaFortnite caster and content creator; Knurled, one of the League of Legends LVP commentators; Y Uliseswhich was linked to the MOBA for years, but is now targeting VALORANT.
It has been a very special award because half of the nominees did not attend. Both Mixwell and Flakked, both players of Team Heretics —TheGrefg’s club—, were absent as they prepared for the various competitions.
Both have strangely seen it together. In the event that Flakked won it, it was confirmed that Skain would pick it up, but they didn’t reveal who would have won if the winner had been Mixwell, who won last year but started with less favoritism this time around.
So in addition to the Fortnite player – whose circuit isn’t as structured as the other games – there was Reven as a representative of the TFT community – although originally a League of Legends player -, Mixwell from VALORANT and Flakked from that of League or legends.
So three of the four nominees were Spanish, but in the end the price has remained in Mexico. While we don’t know the weight of the vote, local support and the Latin American public are likely to have been key for Jelty to have taken the cat in the water.
