Slime Rancher 2: How to get to Ember Valley and Starlight Strand

Like the first chapter, much of Slime Rancher 2 (available now on Xbox Game Pass) explores the world. At first glance, the world of this game may seem very small, but don’t be fooled: this is just another island for you to explore. Rainbow Fields is a brilliant starting location that can make a great farm to start with, but if you want to explore more advanced stuff, you’ll need to expand quite a bit.

From the first island you have two options to choose where you want to go. The volcanic Ember Valley or the mysterious Starlight Strand? You’ll have to walk quite a bit to get there, so we’ll tell you where to go and what to do to make it.

If you venture into the main areas of Rainbow Fields, you’ll likely come across a strange white pillar with a gold trim on it. This is the portal to Ember Valley, but you need to activate it first. To do this, you need to find the Pink Gordo slime on the north edge of the island. To make these Gordo slimes explode, you need to feed them as much as possible and their favorite food. Unfortunately, pink slime doesn’t have a favorite food, so you just need to give them 32 random food units.

Once it explodes, you will notice that it was sitting there on a geyser. Stand on the geyser and when you see it firing its beam you will be pushed onto the surrounding cliffs. From there, follow the path forward until you reach a strange device. Activate it and the pillars will fall and reveal the portal to Ember Valley.

How to get to Starlight Strand –

A little closer to your farm in Rainbow Fields – near where you get the first data point for the map – is a very small path that leads up a large hill. At the top you’ll find a Cotton Gordo slime blocking the path to Starlight Strand.

These slimes only eat vegetables, but they have a favorite food: water lettuce. Shoot them 16 (or 32 other vegetables) and it should be enough to make them explode, revealing a path leading to both the portal to Starlight Strand and the lever to activate it. From there you have two new places to explore and new slimes to grow.
