After presenting it under the temporary name Project Leonardo for the past few months, Sony has revealed new details and the official name of the Access controller, intended to increase the accessibility of next-gen gaming on PS5. Developed in collaboration with accessibility experts, the kit includes a wide variety of thumbstick caps and interchangeable buttons, as well as a specially designed interface.
Sony introduces access controller for PS5 –
As revealed on the PlayStation Blog, each Access controller includes three types of analog stick caps, key caps in different shapes and sizes (including Pillow, Flat, Wide flat, Overhang, Curve), and cap labels for easy labeling of custom inputs. Access is usable on flat surfaces, rotates 360 degrees or attaches to an AMPS mount or tripod, and allows you to adjust the distance from the analog stick to the controller. Four 3.5mm AUX ports allow you to integrate your own dedicated switches, knobs or analog sticks.
Interface and new details —
The special interface offers the possibility to select your preferred orientation (left, up, right and down), assign the commands as you like, activate or deactivate keys or assign two different inputs to the same key. As on the DualSense Edge, it is possible to create and save favorite profiles for different games or genres. You can use up to two Access controllers and a DualSense controller (or Edge controller) at the same time and adjust the dead zones and sensitivity of the sticks. Very useful is the enable/disable mode, which allows you to block the registration of a keystroke so that the relative in-game action is performed automatically – for example, accelerating in a car game without always holding down the run button. For now, the access controller has no release date, but “more information” will be shared “in the coming months”, including new details and the launch window.

I believe that there is a lot of potential in the world of eSports and I am excited to see how it grows in the future.
