The glory of Journey does not give rest to people from the studio that created the game company. Founded by the cult adventure’s former art director, the team of Giant Squid (Abzu, The Pathless) announced their new project as part of the PlayStation Showcase.

The game is called Sword of the Sea and at first glance seems like a non-existent sequel to Journey. The lone protagonist glides across the sunlit sands to Austin Wintory’s atmospheric music.
In the desolate world of Sword of the Sea, the earth flows in waves, and the protagonist, the revived Wraith, must race across quicksand seas on his floating sword (Hoverword) to find the lost ocean.
The floating sword acts like a hoverboard, skateboard and snowboard combined, allowing you to develop tremendous speed and soar into the air. The authors tried to embody the sensations of skateboarding and snowboarding games, but in a different context.
To revive the world of Sword of the Sea, users will need to explore skate park-like ruins, sinking tombs, petrified battlefields, and encounter massive leviathans.
Users in the comments below the Sword of the Sea announcement trailer (attached above) were impressed with what they saw and have already called the game a hybrid of Journey and Tony Hawk Pro Skater, or Journey Hawk Pro Skater.
Sword of the Sea is being developed for PC (the Steam page is not active yet) and PlayStation 5. No release date has been announced. The project is led by Giant Squid creative director and former Journey art director Matt Nava.
