Adventurous stealth action The Lord of the Rings: Gollum from German studio Daedalic Entertainment disappointed critics and players alike. The developers have already apologized and it looks like they won’t be going far from the Lord of the Rings universe.

Recall that The Lord of the Rings: Gollum received 40-41% from the profile press, becoming the lowest rated game of 2023 on Metacritic. Steam users also slammed the project: “mostly negative” reviews and a 31% rating.
Critics and gamers are berating The Lord of the Rings: Gollum for its monotonous gameplay, outdated stealth mechanics, clunky level design, a plethora of bugs, and general technical condition.

Daedalic responded to the criticism by issuing a statement she had submitted “sincere apology” for user experience “disappointing experience” with the game and acknowledged that the project fell short of expectations from the community and the team itself.
The studio assured that they are listening to fan feedback and suggestions and are also working hard to improve the project. The first post-release patch is expected tomorrow, May 27.

Against the backdrop of Gollum’s failure, Games Wirtschaft’s attention was drawn to the fact that Daedalic is simultaneously developing another Lord of the Rings game. The German government has given the studio a grant of €2.03 million.
Codenamed It’s Magic, the game is aimed at fans of action-adventure and tells the story of a character that has never been told before. The release is expected in the summer of 2024.
