Developed by newcomer Jukai Studio and published by Versus Evil (of Pillars of Eternity), Stray Souls, an action-packed psychological horror game, It is announced. The title is being developed with Unreal Engine 5 and arrives later this year for all platforms (except for Switch).
As the first trailer shows us, the game takes place in the middle of nowhere, in an abandoned house also in the middle of nowhere. Despite the clichés, these elements are present in more horror works than we can imagine.
Stray Souls’ description promises to deliver “grotesque enemies, legendary bosses, complex puzzles, and an intense story, where not everyone is what they seem.” The game will even have “soul-like precision” in its “classic horror combat.”
Stray Souls Highlights
- Explore the city of Aspen Fall and its surroundings to unravel the evil plan set in motion at the birth of Daniel.
- Immerse yourself in the story of Daniel. Choose answers at key moments through branching dialogues, shaping the protagonist’s tone and personality.
- Fight or run from hordes of hideous creatures. Streamlined combat with a reduced arsenal focuses on combat tactical planning and resource management.
- Solve lots of tricky puzzles with creative solutions to test your wits.
- Variable systems will cause enemy encounters, item placement, changing weather patterns, and strange phenomena to occur in different locations, making each match unique.
The Stray Souls Steam page already has system requirements and surprisingly they require far below hardware for games with this kind of look. Although they don’t describe it, it’s not hard to imagine that the recommendations below are subject to change until the game’s release.
