The control exceeds the mark of
3 million units sold
The Assetto Corsa series reached the milestone of 28 million copies sold during December 2022, generating revenue of US$112 million. The latest game in the series was released in 2018 under the name of Assetto Corsa Competizione, which has received constant updates since its release.
Assetto Corsa 2 will use its own engine
According to 505 Games co-founder Marco Massarutto, Assetto Corsa 2 will use its own engine, based on the code from the original title. The Competizione version was based on Epic’s Unreal Engine 4, but the studio decided not to use Unreal Engine 5 in the next game in the franchise.
Massarutto explains that the decision was made to increase the flexibility of the project. “We won’t use Unreal because we need more flexibility. Unreal Engine is fantastic technology and I think games like Ride 4, Moto GP or Assetto Corsa Competizione have turned out to be great games. But the way we’re used to working… I think we’re a technology provider and not just a game developer.
As he explained in an interview, the developer likes to use the engine itself, since it makes it easy to create specific tools and resources. “We are very happy with what we have done with Competizione and Epic Games. But now we are developing new technology to better meet our needs,” said the co-founder.
So far, 505 Games has not officially revealed the game, and also did not reveal which platforms Assetto Corsa 2 will launch on. We expect the game to be in development for the next generation consoles PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and also for PC.
